Home Educated and Flexi-School Sessions
Brickwork Mathematics offers home educated children a welcoming and safe place to learn, where learning is brought to life through real life experiences, engaging topics, themed learning and hands on tasks.
An initial 30 minute phone call takes place with each home educated booking to discuss the approach taken and to create a curriculum to suit the child's needs and interests.
We use high quality resources and co-create a curriculum built around each child's needs.
The sessions also use the outdoor
space to promote hands on learning.
The sessions can take place weekly and a schedule that suits each child is created.
Flexi-school sessions are also available , where the child's school allows time out of the day to visit Brickwork Mathematics.
Primary Aged Sessions:
(Ages 5-11_)
Our tutoring sessions are balanced through a use of practical, hands on activities and recorded problem solving tasks to support children's understanding and to develop confidence.
Children learn best when the activity if purposeful, meaningful and engaging.
Often resources such as pizza, chocolate, sweets, counters and small toys are used to introduce tricky concepts with number, fractions and calculation.
Bottle flipping, chocolate making, making Squishies and baking are used to apply skills such as measure, 2D and 3D shapes and data handling.
The sessions are planned using the children's next steps and alongside the learning they will cover at school in the curriculum.
After each session, detailed written feedback is provided which outlines strengths, focus areas worked on in the session and your child's next steps.
Secondary Sessions
( Ages 11-16)
Often when children start secondary education, confidence in maths can decrease .Additionally, the learning becomes less practical and meaningful, often becoming theoretical and abstract.
As parents, it can be more challenging to support your child with homework too.
At Brickwork Mathematics, the sessions continue to be purposeful and engaging as possible. The students interests and needs are at the forefront of the sessions.
Brickwork Mathematics is also a safe and welcoming place for secondary school children to share any areas they are finding challenging in school.
The sessions support children with the transition from primary school into Keystage 3.
We also support students with preparing for their GCSEs by exploring exam techniques, revision and challenging content.
I was looking for a maths tutor for my daughter who is home educated. I was anxious about finding someone who would be able to incorporate our approach and values. As soon as I spoke to Andrea on the phone, she put me at ease and I knew she would be a great fit for us. She is enthusiastic, kind and passionate about teaching maths in a fun, practical and meaningful way.

The sessions are fun and hands on - which is prefect for my child. She's growing in confidence with Andrea's support and can't wait to attend the session each week. Andrea has a lovely warm, approachable manner which I think really contributes to my daughter engaging with the activities, and her passion for helping children to find enjoyment in maths is evident.
We could not recommend Brickwork Mathematics more highly and we're so glad that we found Andrea.

From the very first session, my son’s attitude to maths was changing and he was keen to come and tell me how he now knew how to do the maths he had been trying so hard at in school.
Through Year 5 and now Year 6, my son has continued to improve significantly in his maths and in preparation for his SATs with his teacher telling me at parents evenings how much the tutoring is clearly helping.
