Our tutoring sessions are balanced through a use of practical, hands on activities and recorded problem solving tasks to support children's understanding and to develop confidence.

After each session, detailed written feedback is provided which outlines strengths, focus areas worked on in the session and your child's next steps.

Year 1

We explore numbers to 100 with the use of practical equipment.
Through the use of games and visual resources, we explore number relationships and number bonds.
We use hands on equipment to explore the meaning of the 4 calculation symbols and develop mental methods to calculate.
Key vocabulary for shape and measure is explored and the understanding of this is developed.
Children are introduced to fractions with the use of food.

Year 2

We explore numbers to 100 with the use of practical equipment with deeper place value understanding.
Through the use of games and visual resources, we explore number relationships and number bonds.
We use hands on equipment to explore the meaning of the 4 calculation symbols and develop mental methods to calculate.
The children are introduced to their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Key vocabulary for shape and measure is explored and the understanding of this is developed.
Children are introduced to fractions with the use of food.

Year 3

We explore numbers to 1000 with the use of practical objects and support mats.
Further exploration of how and when fractions are used with the use of food and visual representations.
Children learn the 3, 4 and 8 times tables through the use of songs and strategies to help with retention and recall.
Exploration of mental and written calculation through use of objects and support mats.
The children are presented with opportunities to apply key skills to problem solving.

Year 4

We explore numbers up to 10,000 developing a deeper understanding of place value.
Calculating with fractions with the use of food and visual representations.
Children learn the 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12 times tables through use of songs and strategies to develop recall of facts.
Exploration of mental and written calculation.
Application of key skills through problem solving.

Year 5

We explore numbers to 100,000, developing a deeper understanding of place value.
Calculating with fractions and decimals and the introduction of percentages.
Exploration of mental and written calculation with larger amounts.
Introduction to challenging shape vocabulary, graphs, angles and coordinates.
Application of key skills through problem solving.

Year 6

We explore numbers to 1,000,000, developing a deeper understanding of place value.
Calculating with fractions, decimals and percentages.
Exploration of mental and written calculation with larger amounts.
Introduction to algebra and development of shape, angles and area learning.
Application of key skills through problem solving.
